Home Current Privacy Policy: What We Collect and Why
Home Current is an independent outlet covering smart home devices, home electrification and utility rate programs, so this policy covers the reading, newsletter and contact parts of the site. We collect as little as the work needs.
What data Home Current collects
When you sign up for the weekly newsletter we store the email address you type in, so the roundup can reach you. When you email us, we keep your message and the address it came from until the question is answered. Pages on this site may also record anonymous visit data, including which pages are opened, the site that referred the visit and the browser type.
How Home Current uses it
Newsletter addresses go out with the weekly send and with alerts when a guide is updated. Contact messages are used to answer the reader, and when an answer helps more than one person we turn it into an explainer or a guide. We do not use anything you send us for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles from your reading.
Cookies and page measurement
This site and the services that host and deliver it place cookies and similar files, which can carry analytics identifiers and the pages you open. Blocking or clearing cookies in your browser settings does not stop you from reading any article. Clearing them does mean a fresh visitor count, so the numbers we quote for readership get thinner over time.
What Home Current does not share
We do not sell, rent or trade newsletter addresses. Two outside services touch reader data because the work needs them: the email company that sends the newsletter and the hosting company that serves the pages. Both hold only what their part of the job requires.
Your choices
Every newsletter carries an unsubscribe link that removes the address from the next send. Writing to us asks for the same thing, and for a copy of what we hold about you. Browser settings also let you block or delete cookies without losing access to the articles.
Changes to this policy
When the coverage or the tools behind it change, this page changes with it, and the edits stay on the record here rather than in a separate archive. Older versions are worth reading if you want to see what applied at the time.
How to reach the Home Current Desk
Questions about this policy go to [email protected], and the Home Current Desk answers them. The same address takes story ideas, correction requests and price-check updates for our weekly buying guides.
